Responding Promptly to Snowfall: Wudalianchi Global Geopark Battles Snow to Ensure Safety and Smooth TrafficRelease date:2025-11-30

Wudalianchi Global Geopark was hit by a heavy snowfall from November 29 to 30. Faced with this icy challenge, the Administrative Committee of Wudalianchi attached great importance to the situation, activated the emergency response mechanism promptly. All relevant departments took immediate action at the first sign of snow, worked round the clock to carry out snow and ice clearance, as well as hidden danger inspections, ensuring the stable and orderly operation of the scenic area and the travel safety of residents and tourists.

According to Zhao Lingyan, Director of the Emergency Support Center of Wudalianchi Global Geopark, drawing profound lessons from the low-temperature, rain, snow and freezing disasters in recent years, Wudalianchi had made advance arrangements, requiring all relevant units to make preparations before the snowfall, keep a close eye on key areas and critical links, and conduct thorough and comprehensive hidden danger inspections. "We focused on slippery sections, ice-prone roads, electrical lines vulnerable to ice accumulation, large-span structures, agricultural greenhouses and travel agencies. Meanwhile, we strengthened the implementation of safety management measures in road traffic safety, tourism safety and people's livelihood-related sectors for key units including hospitals, schools, tourist attractions and passenger stations, to prevent all kinds of safety accidents from occurring."
As soon as the snow started to fall, the full-scale campaign of snow and ice removal was launched. The Park and Municipal Public Facilities Support Center of Wudalianchi organized machinery and manpower to start road operations without delay. By 8:00 p.m. on November 29, the center had dispatched 2 large snowplows, which carried out continuous snow clearing operations for 5 hours, efficiently clearing about 420,000 square meters of primary and secondary roads under its management in the urban area and completing the first round of cleaning. At present, traffic on the primary and secondary roads in the urban area is smooth, providing strong support for residents' morning travel on the following day.
The Transportation Center of Wudalianchi also went all out to ensure the smooth flow of national and provincial trunk roads and important connecting lines. The center dispatched 3 snow-clearing vehicles, 1 patrol vehicle and 6 staff members, who braved the wind and snow to carry out snow removal work. It is expected to complete the cleaning task of about 60 kilometers of roads, striving to guarantee the smoothness and safety of the traffic "arteries".

In the core tourist attractions, all cadres and staff of the Tourist Attraction Service Center took part in the work and fought against the snow. They focused on manual snow clearing and anti-slip treatment for tourist footpaths, sidewalks, steps and other slippery sections, laid anti-slip mats and set up warning signs, minimizing potential safety hazards to the greatest extent, and ensuring that the scenic area could still provide a safe and comfortable visiting environment for tourists after the snowfall.

At present, all snow response work in Wudalianchi Global Geopark is still underway in a tense and orderly manner. All departments will continue to monitor weather changes, strengthen emergency duty and inspection work, clear snow as soon as it falls, ensure that roads are clean once the snow stops, and safeguard the safety of the scenic area and the peace of tourists with practical actions.
