Two million years ago, the volcanic activity in Quaternary left precious geologic heritage and landscapes in Wudalianchi Global Geopark. On 31 May, South Gelaqiu volcano Scenic Area, one of the ancient volcanoes in Wudalianchi Global Geopark, was opened for tourists. In recent years, in order to meet Science enthusiasts and tourists needs，Wudalianchi Global Geopark is constantly exploiting the new ways of geologicaltourism and protecting geological heritage. South Gelaqiu volcano—Tianchi Scenic Area was operated officially, it is not only increase the understanding of Wudalianchi Global Geoparks old period volcano for tourists, but can improve competitiveness of core tourist products and enhance the impetus for Wudalianchi’s tourist industry. Gelaqiu volcano is the oldest and highest among the 14 volcanoes in Wudalianchi Global Geopark. There is a basin-shaped crater of 500 meters in diameter on the top of the South Gelaqiu volcano, which held the mysterious pool accumulated for millions of years. This pool was dozens of meters in depth without freezing in each season, and the water here was clean and clear like a mirror. It is also said that a rare fish with reversed scale grew in the lake, which was hard for the scientist to identify. Visitors can enjoy the mighty jungle and find different kinds of birds and animals in summer and watch beautiful rime and frost tower in winter. Totalinvestment of Gelaqiu volcano Scenic Area costed 31.24 million yuan after 3 years construction. There are 3-kilometer boardwalks, 14,000 km2of parking lots and more than 40 multilingual signboards. And the famous sights include former sites of Buddhist Nunnery White Tower, Giant Snake Valley, Flying Gangway, Rainforest and other four landscapes. Visitors would spend anhourandahalf in Tianchi Scenic Area. Except for full of tourists in opening day, it also attracted more than 500 tourists which took the train named Longjiang Star to attendtheopeningceremony. Visitors can enjoy uniquecharms of old volcanic heritage, watch the various volcanic vegetation in primary forest, hear the birdcall along the ring roads around the lakes, breathe the fresh air which is full of negative oxygen ion on the side of Tianchi lake and feel the harmony between man and nature.
