College Student Volunteer Service Corps of Wudalianchi Global Geopark Goes to Communities: Bringing Science Popularization Activities to LifeRelease date:2026-01-26

Young power reaches down to the grassroots, and the spring breeze of science popularization nurtures the people's hearts. On January 25, 2026, under the overall organization of the Administrative Committee of Wudalianchi Scenic Area, the College Student Volunteer Service Corps of Wudalianchi Global Geopark, composed of students from universities in Beijing, went deep into local communities. Focusing on the hot issues of concern to residents, the corps launched a rich and innovative science popularization campaign centered on "Climate Change Response" and "Local Mineralogy Knowledge". The activity not only delivered accessible scientific knowledge to residents, but also effectively raised their awareness of the precious geological heritage beneath their feet and their sense of guardianship, truly bringing science popularization into daily life and rooting it in the people's hearts.

In the morning, the volunteer service corps kicked off the activity in Mingzhen Community, elaborately designing two themed sessions: "Climate Change Response Knowledge Quiz" and "Environmental Protection Legal Popularization Theater". Giving full play to their professional strengths, the volunteers transformed rigorous scientific knowledge into engaging forms such as interesting quizzes and vivid situational plays that are popular among the public. They intuitively explained the causes of climate change, its impacts on daily life, and practical response measures, while skillfully integrating the interpretation of relevant environmental protection laws and regulations, making tedious legal provisions vivid and tangible. Residents participated actively and interacted enthusiastically on site, strengthening their awareness of environmental protection amid laughter and joy, and deeply embedding the concept of green development in their minds.

In the afternoon, the science popularization venue moved to Shilong East Community, where a unique mineral science popularization activity titled "Wudalianchi Mineral Exploration Journey" was staged wonderfully. Based on their professional perspective, the volunteers gave a detailed explanation of the formation principles, characteristics and values of various typical minerals in Wudalianchi Global Geopark. Combined with immersive experience forms such as close-range physical displays and graphic panel analysis, they elaborated on the obscure geological knowledge in an approachable way. People touched the mineral specimens from their hometown with their own hands, and in the collision between the tactile sensation at their fingertips and professional explanations, they truly felt the magnificent and magical geological landscape of Wudalianchi and deeply appreciated the unique natural charm of this land.

During the activity, the volunteer team also distributed cultural and creative products of Wudalianchi Global Geopark as interactive prizes. This not only added fun to the activity, but also strengthened residents' sense of identity with local geological culture, further igniting their enthusiasm for participating in activities and exploring science. The atmosphere on site was warm and harmonious. Residents not only listened attentively to the explanations, took the initiative to ask questions and communicate, but also showed their talents spontaneously, interacting with volunteers in a two-way manner and resonating in the same frequency, thus building a sound science popularization ecosystem featuring "volunteer advocacy plus public participation".
This series of science popularization activities is not only a vivid practice of university volunteer services sinking to the grassroots, but also a beneficial exploration for Wudalianchi Global Geopark to innovate the forms of science popularization. The activity has effectively improved residents' understanding of climate change response, ecological environmental protection and local geological knowledge, and stimulated their conscious actions to protect the hometown's ecology and inherit geological culture. Meanwhile, it has built a bridge for the in-depth integration of university volunteer services and local development, accumulated valuable experience for the "university-local co-construction and science popularization for the benefit of the people" model, and injected youthful momentum into promoting the construction of ecological civilization and enhancing the public's scientific literacy.
