Geological Knowledge-Types of Volcanoes
The types of volcanic eruptions are diverse: some are dominated by a large amount of magma overflowing from the beginning to the end, containing less gas. This kind of eruption is relatively quiet, forming a slow shield volcano composed of lava; some are violent eruptions with prominent gas effects. A large amount of detritus is formed with a slag cone volcano, accumulating slag; some are combination of the above characteristics, which belong to the mixed type with both of detritus and the overflow of magma. this type is large in scale and is a composite volcano (layer volcano). The above three types of volcanoes all exist in Wudalianchi.
Volcanic eruption must have a channel to communicate with deep magma. Some volcanoes erupt along a cylindrical channel, which is called a central eruption; some erupts along a fissure (fracture), which is called a fissure eruption. The 14 volcanoes in Wudalianchi all erupt along cylindrical channels, belonging to the center type. Some shield volcanoes in Wudalianchi erupt along the fissures.
When the central volcano erupts, a large-scale volcanic cone and a large area of lava are formed. The volcano, formed by the eruption along the main channel , is called the main volcano. There are often small secondary channels around the main channel, accompanied by small-scale volcanic eruptions, and the volcanoes formed by the eruption of these secondary channels are called secondary volcanoes. In addition, small eruptions or small volcanic cones are often seen on the main volcano. It is caused by the shallow branch of the main channel. Such small volcanoes that are parasitic on the main volcano are called parasitic volcanoes. The 14 truncated volcanoes and many shield volcanoes in Wudalianchi are all main volcanoes, and most of the cinder cone volcanoes are secondary volcanoes. In addition, there are small parasitic volcanoes in Laohei Volcano and Huoshao Volcano.
