Wudalianchi welcomed the first revalidation by IUCN for the green list of the preserved areasRelease date:2020-08-12

This year, Wudalianchi welcomed the first revalidation by the IUCN for the green list of the preserved areas. According to the procedure, Wudalianchi has completed the online task to provide the required supporting evidences for expert audit. Due to the epidemic control, the onsite inspection and the stakeholder conference of the IUCN green list revalidation which could not be carried out temporarily was held on August 11th in a completely new form of video conference.

The conference was held in Tencent online video. Wang Wei, the Director and Deputy Researcher of the Natural Reserve Research Office in Ecological Institute of China Academy of Environmental Sciences,  Liu Xiaohai, the Chief Representative of China of the International Foundation for Protection, Xia Wenwei, the Director of International Accreditation Service, Huang Wensi, the expert on green directory of the preserved areas, Niu Mingguang, the Deputy Director of Wudalianchi Administrative Committee, the in charge persons from Land and Resource Bureau, Scenic Spot Bureau, Construction Bureau, Environmental Protection Bureau and other relevant representatives from scenic spots, communities, cooperative research institutes, enterprises and other stakeholders attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Wudalianchi introduced the status in implementing the requirement of the IUCN green directory from four aspects. Relevant departments and representatives of stakeholders exchanged their feelings with the revalidation experts on the ecological changes of the reserve and its surrounding areas, their opinions and suggestions on the ecological protection, and the relationship between the management and protection activities and the ordinary life and production. The achievement of the meeting and materials such as the consultation form of the stakeholders for the green directory will be used as an important basis for evaluating whether Wudalianchi meets the requirement in the revalidation part by stakeholders for the green directory.  

In 2014, Wudalianchi was listed in the first IUCN green list of the preserved areas in the world. According to the rules of the green directory, the qualification is valid for 5 years, and the revalidation should be carried out according to the latest requirement, the development and changes of the nature reserves. A mid-term revalidation will be carried out every two and a half years to update the requirement. This year, Wudalianchi welcomed the first revalidation of the green directory. Passing of the revalidation is one of the primary tasks of the Administrative Committee this year. After the revalidation, IUCN will hold a voting meeting of the China Expert Committee on the green directory. The global revalidation is tentatively scheduled in September, and the final results will be released after that.
