The revalidation is an assessment and inspection conducted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)’s Global Geoparks network every four years to the members of the Global Geoparks. On July 8th, Wudalianchi UNESCO Global Geopark will face its fourth revalidation.
According to the arrangement of the UNESCO’s Global Geopark Secretary, the expert team is composed of the members of the Coordination Committee of the European Geopark Network, John Galloway , the Director of the Copper Coast Geopark - Republic of Ireland and the geologist, and Dr. Eduardo, the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Sesia - Val Grande Global Geopark in Italy. They will arrive in the evening of the July 8th and carry out a three-day assessment and inspection.
Since 2004 when Wudalianchi UNESCO Global Geopark was approved by UNESCO to join the Global Geopark Network, it has been evaluated for three times in 2008, 2012 and 2014 respectively. In the past 14 years, Wudalianchi UNESCO Global Geopark, under the guidance and support of the Executive Board of the UNESCO Global Geopark Network and China Global Geopark Network Office, has further strengthened the protection, development and construction of the park. With the purpose of strengthening protection, researching in science and spreading scientific information, developing tourism and enriching people, it has made great efforts to integrate resources, improve functions, enrich sophistication and culture and improve the quality of life. At the same time, in view of the opinions put forward by the experts during the rerevalidation of UNESCO, multiple rectification measures are formulated and carried out accordingly so as to build a distinctive geopark and a representative tourism brand of Heilongjiang Province. It has made positive contributions to the effective protection of resources and the better and faster development to the economy and society in the region.
After the mid-term revalidation, the expert team will write an revalidation report and submit it to the UNESCO. The result will be announced in September this year.
